Franchesca Lyra is an undergraduate biology student and Ronald E. McNair Scholar at the University of Texas at Austin. Alongside biology, she is completing her secondary teaching certification and is a full-time high school anatomy teacher. She was previously an Undergraduate Biology Education Research fellow at the University of Georgia. Under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Limeri, she assisted in developing a survey to investigate STEM undergraduate mindset beliefs. Her current research is concerned with how professors’ mindsets about student success—that is, whether all students can succeed or whether only some students can—are associated with the proportion of women, racial/ethnic minority, and first-generation students that are in those professors’ fields. She will begin a Ph.D. in STEM Education in Fall 2021.
