University of Georgia
Postdoctoral Research Associate
I am currently a Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Associate in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia working with Dr. Erin Dolan. Next month I will be starting as an Assistant Professor conducting Biology Education Research in the Department of Biological Sciences at Texas Tech University. I earned my Ph.D. in 2017 from the University of Pittsburgh studying evolutionary biology and behavioral ecology by investigating butterfly wing color patterns and mating preferences. I then moved to UGA to work with Dr. Erin Dolan and transition to studying undergraduate education. During my postdoc, I have investigated multiple aspects of the social and psychological development of undergraduate science students, including the experiences of graduate and postdoctoral mentors of undergraduate researchers and the negative experiences undergraduates have with their research mentors. In my own research, I am investigating mindset beliefs in undergraduate students. My research has yielded insights into how students’ mindset beliefs change during college, the factors that influence changes in students’ mindsets, and problems with current measures for studying mindset in college students. I obtained funding from the National Science Foundation to develop a new survey to measure mindsets of undergraduate STEM students. My research accomplishments have been recognized by the University of Georgia’s Postdoctoral Research Award.
